How to add a Facebook video in your email campaign
In this tutorial you will learn how to create, configure and send a Video Email that plays automatically at the moment of opening the email on any device and any connection.
This tutorial will walk through the steps of embedding a Facebook video within your email template by copying and pasting a small piece of HTML into your email template.

1. Create your Playable Account
If you are new to Playable you can create a new account. All new accounts are offered the opportunity to test drive the platform with 1,000 free plays.
Once you are logged in you will see our Welcome page, click “Videos” to continue.
2. Create your Video clip
To create your video clip click the Add Video button at the head of the page.
3. Upload your Facebook Video
Enter a Video Title for the Video Clip you are creating
Check the dimensions of your video, these should be set to ensure your video fits within your email template. You have the option to disable looping, this will see the video play once and then stop on the end-frame, we are opting to loop the video, so we don’t check the box.
We now move to uploading our Facebook video content.
- Visit your Facebook page and identify the video you wish to add to your email campaign, you can locate it either in your “Videos” or within your “Posts“.
- Click on the video, you will now see your video ready for review.
- Copy the URL of the video.
- Now return to Playable and paste this URL into the “Enter URL of the video” field and click “Apply“
4. Edit your Video
Your video is now ready for editing.
Our editor is designed to enable you to create a 10 second clip of video from the full-length video you uploaded.
It is this 10 seconds clip that will be published in your video email. In the editor you can crop the video to focus on your key content and select multiple clips to make up the 10 second clip.
As you are creating your clip the editor will show you the duration of each section and allow you to preview the clip and re edit until you are happy with your final clip.
Once you have your final cut click “Continue”.
5. Enhance your Video clip
You are now ready to add any enhancements to your clip including captions, a watermark, endcard or footer.
Simply select the enhancements you wish to add and follow the onscreen prompts to add your chosen enhancements.
You can also add a link to where any clickers on the video should be re directed, this will generally be the page where the hull video is hosted.
You now have completed creating your video snippet so click the “Compile” button.
Playable now compiles this video clip creating over a hundred version of the video which will be used to ensure each recipient receives the video file most suitable for their device, bandwidth and connection.
6. Add a Click Action to your Video Clip
Click “Click Action” in the left hand navigation bar. As the video is playing within the recipients email you have the option to include a click action within the video.
This click action can either open a URL or continue to play the video and audio on the device, having selected the option you will then need to add the details to support this and finally click the “Apply” button.
7. Preview and Sample your Video Email Clip
Here you can sample your video clip including any enhancements you have added. Before you add your video clip to your the email template you can send a sample of the video to yourself and colleagues, to check all is looking good when it arrives in the inbox.
You can add a message at the head of these emails if you wish, this can be useful when you are circulating for internal feedback. Once you are happy with the sample click “Embed” in the left hand navigation bar.
8. Video clip has been created
Your clip has been successfully compiled so now it’s time to start thinking about placing this video within your email template. The first step in this process is to select the email platform you are going to use to send your video email campaign.
Playable works with all the popular email platforms, you can see a list of the platforms we are integrated with here. In this tutorial we are using MailChimp as our preferred email platform.
Select MailChimp as the email platform that you are using to send your campaign from the drop down options.
9. Copy the HTML clip
To embed your video into your MailChimp template you will need to paste the Playable HTML into the MailChimp template.
To do this select “Copy to clipboard”
10. Paste the Playable HTML where you wish the Video to feature within your Template
Having identified the position in the template you wish to position the Playable video clip, delete any HTML which corresponds to any image you are replacing and then paste the Playable HTML in the section from where you deleted the image tag, and click “Save“
Proceed to test and send your Video Email campaign in the normal way.
