Video Tutorial & Step-by-Step Guide: How To Create Emarsys Video Emails

Prepare your email template in Emarsys
1. Create an email in Emarsys
Once logged into your Emarsys account, simply proceed to create a campaign using the Block-Based Email as normal, by first selecting it from the 2 options displayed.
2. Select Block-Based Email template
Select the template you wish to use for the campaign from either “Your Templates” or the “Pre-Built Templates”, by simply hovering over it and clicking the Create Campaign button.
3. Edit your Block-Based Email template
Select to insert a Text Block into your Campaign, and then drag it across into your template.
This should be placed in the position within your template where you ultimately wish your video to appear.
In this example, we have placed our Text Block at the head of the template, sitting below the navigation bar.
4. Locate the Emarsys Scripting Language snippet
We now need to delete the positional text which is in the Text Block, so we highlight all of the lorem ipsum text and delete it.
Once deleted we can see a menu sitting above the Text Block, from this menu we select “</>“. On selecting this we are presented with a pop-up box titled Emarsys Scripting Language snippet. This is where we will be inserting our Playable video later.
It is now time to create our video content.
Import your Video into Playable
5. Select Playable in Add-ons menu
Hover over the Add-ons tab in the top Emarsys navigation menu and select Playable from your Add-ons drop-down listing.
If this is your first time using Playable you will need to contact your Emarsys Account Manager to have the Playable Add-on enabled on your account.
6. Create your video in Playable
You are now going to create the video content which is to be embedded in your Emarsys email.
The first step is to select + Add a Video which commences the video upload process.
If this is the first time you have used Playable no videos will show on this page, just the prompt to + Add Video. When you re-visit this page to create future videos all your previous videos will be shown on this page.
7. Upload your video to Playable
Create a title for your video, this will be used to locate it in the future in your Playable account and in reporting. Referencing the dimensions of the image position holder in the email template you can now enter the size (width) of the video content you are looking to create, or keep the optimum size as suggested by Playable.
You have 2 options on how to upload your video content to Playable:
- Copy & paste a URL of the video’s location – Playable accepts content from all the major hosting platforms including YouTube, Vimeo, Brightcove, TikTok, Facebook, and Instagram.
- File Upload – Upload a file from your computer. All video file formats are accepted, including MP4, AVI, and MOV.
Once you have selected your video, click the Apply button to upload your video file.
8. A summary of your video
Once you have uploaded your video it will be shown on the Summary page.
Playable automatically creates a 10-second preview of your video which is shown here. This can be changed later if you wish.
As the video is playing within the recipients’ email the option exists to include a Call-To-Action (CTA) link within the video.
To set your Click Action, add the link/URL of the destination page you want any clickers of the video to be re-directed to, and save it.
9. Setting the default image
Less than 2% of your recipients will not have the ability to experience video playback within their email.
To ensure the user experience is not compromised, an image will be shown to these recipients in place of the video content. Here we select a still image, from the video footage, which will be shown to these recipients.
To set this image click Advanced in the Video menu.
We automatically select an image to be used from the video footage, this is shown in the Alt Image section. If you are happy with this, simply click Apply. If you want a different image, or upload a specific image, follow the onscreen instructions for these options.
10. Edit your email video
Having completed the configuration of your video it is now time to edit your video. To commence this click Editor.
Our Online Editor is designed to enable you to create a video clip from the full-length video you uploaded. It is this edit that will be played in your video email. In the Editor, you can crop the video to focus on key content and select multiple scenes to change the duration of the video.
As you are creating your video email the Editor will show you the total duration and allow you to preview the edits, and re-edit until you are happy with your final cut. Once you are happy with your edit click the Continue button.
11. Enhance your email video
You are now ready to add enhancements to your video, including Captions, Watermark, Endcard, or Footer. Simply select the enhancement you wish to add and follow the onscreen prompts to add it to your video.
You now have completed creating your video clip, so click the Compile button to continue.
Playable now compiles this video, creating multiple versions, which will be used to ensure each recipient receives an optimized video most suitable for their device, bandwidth, and connection.
12. Preview & sample your video email
Preview how your video email plays in the major email clients by using the drop-down above the preview window.
You can also send a sample of your video email for internal review. Click the Sample button, complete the form, and hit Send. You can add a message to the sample. This is useful when circulating for internal feedback.
Once you are happy with the sample click Embed in the left-hand menu to continue.

13. Embed the video into your Emarsys campaign
To embed the video into your email template select Emarsys from the drop-down list of email providers, on the Embed page.
The HTML Embed Code, optimized to Emarsys, will appear below. Always use the latest Embed Code to ensure capturing all changes made to the video and settings.
Click the Copy to Clipboard button to grab all the Embed Code to use in your Emarsys email template.

14. Embed video into Emarsys email template
To embed the video into your email, return to your Emarsys email template (refer to step 4).
Paste Playable’s HTML Embed Code, which you copied to clipboard, directly into the Emarsys Scripting Language snippet pop-up box within the Code Snippet area.
Finally, add a name for the snippet (we used Playable Video) and click the OK button. The pop-up box will close returning you to the Block-Based builder, where the text area is now labelled in accordance with the name you gave the Code Snippet, in our case Playable Video.
15. Preview your video email, test, and send campaign
To preview your video email, in your Emarsys template, navigate to the Preview Page for the campaign. Here you will see your video playing within the email template.
You are now ready to test and send your campaign in the normal way.
